ARGON GTL

The Grand Turismo of gyroplanes - more than you expected

Every class of vehicle eventually produces a grand tourer - the one built not just to perform, but to carry you far, in comfort and in style. For gyroplanes, that machine is the ARGON GTL: a 600 kg maximum takeoff weight, up to five hours in the air, and a full cubic metre of luggage space, hand-built with the precision and finish of an Italian supercar in the colour you specify.

Specifications tell you a cabin is large; they do not let you feel it. This is a finished GTL at golden hour - the walkaround from nose to tail, the engine bay, the Garmin glass cockpit and the hand-stitched leather inside. Stay to the end, where someone walks into shot and gives you the scale. Two seats abreast rather than one behind the other is a choice with consequences - side by side or tandem sets them out.

The GTL - Grand Turismo Long - earns its name: the fuel, the range and the luggage of a tourer, with the handling and the 360-degree visibility of an ARGON. Two of those lines are worth unpacking - how long it can stay in the air works the endurance and range out of the flight manual, and what fuel a gyrocopter uses explains why it fills up at a filling station rather than an aerodrome.

Need a third seat? There is one - the ARGON GTL Triple, on a 700 kg airframe. It is not UK-certified, and that page explains exactly why.

GTL vs ARGON 915 - the dimensions

The factory drawing tells the story at a glance: the GTL (left) is nearly half a metre longer and wider in the beam than the ARGON 915 (right) - that is where the cabin room and the luggage compartment come from.

The engine

At its heart is the turbocharged ROTAX 916 iS, producing 160 hp with the reserve to carry the GTL's weight and range - or the ROTAX 915 iS (141 hp), also turbocharged. Both are fuel-injected iS engines, which ROTAX rates as the best power-to-weight ratio in their class, full takeoff power up to 23,000 feet - an engine rating, not the aircraft's ceiling - and a 5-year worldwide manufacturer warranty - the two are compared in ROTAX 915 iS vs 916 iS. They drive an MT constant-speed propeller with a hydraulic governor, or a Woodcomp with electric governor and constant speed control.

Certified in six countries

Certification is the difference between a promise and a document. The ARGON GTL carries type certificates and approvals from aviation authorities across three continents - and in the UK, Manufaktura Lotnicza holds CAA A8-21 Factory Approval with full BCAR-T certification in progress.

What it costs to run

The manufacturer publishes its running costs openly - a rarity in aviation. On ordinary PB 95 petrol at 25 litres per hour, fuel and oil come to about £33.68 per flying hour:

Fuel25 l/h of PB 95 petrol - approx. £32.61 per flying hour
Engine oilApprox. £1.07 per flying hour
Scheduled engine service25 h / 100 h / 200 h cycle - from £0.87 per flying hour
Scheduled aircraft service25 h / 100 h / 200 h cycle - from £0.58 per flying hour
Labour rate£99 per hour (manufacturer's basis)
InsuranceApprox. 2% of the aircraft value per year

Manufacturer's fair-basis estimate (May 2025), excluding taxes; full sheet in the Operating Costs PDF above. See also our UK cost-of-ownership guide.

Proven across continents

ARGONs are not hangar queens. The fleet has crossed the Atlantic on the Fly The North expedition - 16,000 km from Europe to the USA - and the factory line turns out aircraft in every colour of the range, each with around 1,000 hours of handcrafted work.

Price

From £165,000, excluding taxes and delivery. Every ARGON GTL is built to order, and your configuration - engine, avionics, propeller, interior, colour - defines the final price. A fully specified aircraft runs to around £202,000, and the price breakdown sets out what moves the number and what it costs per flying hour. Frequently asked questions

How much does the ARGON GTL cost?

The ARGON GTL starts from £165,000, excluding taxes and delivery. Every aircraft is built to order, so the final price depends on your configuration - contact Argo Aero for a quote.

How much does the ARGON GTL cost to run?

On the manufacturer's published estimate: around £33.68 per flying hour in fuel and oil (25 l/h of ordinary PB 95 petrol), plus scheduled servicing from about £1.45 per flying hour and insurance of roughly 2% of the aircraft value per year.

How far can the ARGON GTL fly?

Up to 5 hours in the air on standard tanks, and up to 620 miles fitted with external tanks. For a worked answer rather than a headline, our guide to how long a gyrocopter can stay in the air takes the flight manual figures line by line. An ARGON has flown the Fly The North expedition: 16,000 km from Europe to the USA.

What can you carry in the ARGON GTL?

A full cubic metre of luggage - enough for full-size suitcases, golf clubs, skis, a surfboard, fishing rods or a foldable bike. It is built for travelling, not just flying.

Is the ARGON GTL certified?

Yes - in six countries. The ARGON GTL holds the German DAeC type certificate #66263, Polish CAA type approval UL-AG.00-001/2025, the French DGAC ULM identification, the Indian DGCA design acceptance, the Turkish type certificate acceptance TCA.2022-07 and the Georgian ULM identification sheet. In the UK, Manufaktura Lotnicza holds CAA A8-21 Factory Approval with full BCAR-T certification in progress.
