Though gyroplanes are easy to pilot, you still need to learn to fly a gyrocopter. Besides, according to law, to fly this aircraft in the UK, you must undergo gyrocopter flight training and get the Gyroplane Pilot Licence.

How to choose a training school

First, a myth worth clearing up, because we used to repeat it on this page ourselves. UK law does not require a gyroplane school to be an Approved Training Organisation. ATO approval applies to instructor courses. For PPL(G) training it is not a legal requirement, and most of the well-established gyroplane schools in Britain and Europe are not CAA-approved organisations. That is normal, and a school being outside the scheme tells you nothing about the quality of its teaching.

What does matter, and what we check before we send anyone anywhere:

  • Their instructors hold valid Gyroplane Pilot Licences with Flight Instructor ratings
  • Aircraft they use for gyrocopter training are certified and undergo regular maintenance
  • They are fully insured for instructor and public liabilities

We work only with well-established schools that meet all three, and we send our own students to one of them. Our intensive course runs in the Algarve, where the weather allows consecutive flying days - what the Algarve course involves sets out how it works, and the PPL(G) syllabus lists every exercise you will fly.

Experience flights by Argo Aero

At this stage, Argo Aero is not a designated training organisation, so we do not provide autogyro flight training. However, we have a certified Gyro instructor in our group, which allows us to carry out experience flights.

With an experience flight, you will get a short, hands-on flying experience, which is a perfect way to try out the world of aviation and see whether gyrocopter flying is for you.

All experience flights you take with us are loggable towards the Gyroplane Pilot Licence.

Gyrocopter flight training differs

Make sure the gyrocopter flight training course you are going to take meets your needs. The following courses are available:

  • Gyroplane flight training for beginners
  • Additional training for private aviators
  • Courses for the commercial gyroplane pilot licence

With gyrocopter flying lessons for beginners, you will learn safety protocols, basics of gyrocopter mechanics, and gain hands-on flying experience.

If you are already a licensed aviator but haven’t got the G rating, you need additional training. Taking this course is necessary as gyros feature distinct flight dynamics and require specific skills and knowledge to fly.

If you plan to undertake public transportation or other commercial flights, take a special course to get a Commercial Gyroplane Pilot Licence.
